How do I ... Find just the right color for my blog?

As I mentioned in another blog post, Blogger makes it REALLY easy to change your colour scheme.

All you have to do is:
1. Click on the "Layout" tab
2. Click on "Fonts and Colors"

From there you simply assign a color to each element (i.e. Page Background Color; Text Color; Link Color; etc)

But what do you do if you want to find some colors that "just match" your blog's background and your preferences.

Allow me to share a few important resources for this

Wikipedia has an excellent list of all the web-safe colors and their corresponding hex numbers.

A web safe color should show up the same no matter what the operating system your visitor is visiting from - and no matter what browser they use. This can be very important. If you want to play it safe, choose your colors from that list.

If you want to get a bit more adventurous, then go to ColourLovers. On the top left portion of your screen you will see Forum | Palettes - put your cursor over "Palettes" and then choose "Search". Then in the "Keyword" type in any color that you love or type a Hex code you like and the site will generate a palette for you!

Choose a palette you love and then use those hex codes in your "Fonts and Colors" option in Blogger.

An easy way to make your blog you own!

How do I ... Create a Horizontal Navigation Bar?

A horizontal menu bar is HUGELY helpful in helping your visitors navigate around your blog. You can survive without them - but life is SO much easier with one!

Let me direct you to the blog where I discovered how to create an EASY and simple menu bar: Creating navigation or menu tabs in Blogger

This is a menu designed to go under your header and/or header image.

This menu can be altered to match your site theme/colours/fonts/etc.

How to add Snow to your Blog

It's so simple anyone can do it!

1. Go to "Layout"
2. Click "Add a Gadget"
3. Don't add a title (otherwise it'll show up) and enter the following code in the "Content" box:

<script src="http://snow-effect.googlecode.com/files/snow.js" type="text/javascript">
/***********************************************
* Snow Effect without images-by Kurt Grigg at http://www.btinternet.com/~kurt.grigg/javascript
* Script featured & available at Dynamic Drive at http://www.dynamicdrive.com/
* Please keep this notice intact
***********************************************/
</script>

4. Click "Save"

It's just that easy!

It's amazing what you can do in Blogger!

Good news everyone!!

While most of this blog will focus on how to really make your blog unique, there are some great features you can do easily within Blogger.

  • Use your own header image
  • Choose your own fonts
  • and much much more!
Over the next while I'll be creating easy-to-use tutorials for each of these areas

Please feel free to make any requests about tutorials you'd like to see and I'll be only to happy to oblige!
